Green Bay Katrina Response

I’ve been reading the Green Bay Press-Gazette on-line since making the decision to move to the area. I was moved by this article in today’s edition. While I’ve heard that some companies have stopped paying employees after Katrina, others have continued to support their employees through this difficult time. Two such supportive companies, from Green Bay, are mentioned in this article. Both companies recently bought factories in Mississippi and are helping their employees survive and rebuild:

Like Santaga, Riopelle has found himself focused on trying to help his Mississippi families deal with the human tragedy. One of the first orders of business was to make sure employees were assured they will continue to receive their regular paycheck.“

We have an employee who has a 16-year-old daughter who has lost both kidneys and is on dialysis,” Riopelle, said Friday. “I just got off the phone with her father and the new generator that we purchased had arrived. It will keep the young lady alive until she can get a new kidney.”

This is a clear example of the type of company that employees and consumers should show loyalty toward.
