Green Bay First Impression
Our family just got back from spending a week in Green Bay, hunting for houses and generally getting a feel for the area and the community. While I won’t bore you with snapshots of the many homes we toured, I will point out some of the other highlights of the visit:
Parks
The Green Bay area is home to an amazing number of State and County parks. During the week, we were able to visit several including Door County’s Potawatomi State Park and Whitefish Dunes as well as Brown County’s Bay Shore Park. Potawatomi was simply amazing with numerous trails overlooking Sturgeon Bay.
Artstreet
Once a year, Green Bay puts on an Arts and Culture festival called Artstreet. We were lucky enough to have chosen to be in Green Bay on the weekend of the event. We spent an afternoon wandering among the artist’s booths as well as listening to Victoria Vox play the ukulele and guitar with her band. My son Joey has been making ukuleles out of lego since we got back from the trip, so I guess the music left an impression on him. Other than lunch, our only purchase was a couple of tee shirts. I had my eye on some of the furniture as well as the Hmong embroidery, but didn’t pull the trigger on a purchase. Next year will be the 25th Artstreet in Green Bay, and I promise to buy something.
Gaming
Green Bay is home to a great gaming store called Gnome Games. I stopped by during my visit and one of the owners, Paula, helped me out with the neighborhoods and school districts. Through their on-line message boards, I’ve managed to connect with the gamers in the area and have already lined up a spot with a group. Most excellent.
Overall, the visit left us with a very positive feel for the area and we’re more enthusiastic than ever to move out to the midwest. Check out a few of the photos taken during the trip here.
